چکیده

I dedicate my dissertation to my family and friends. I would especially like to express my deepest gratitude to my parents Abdul Ghani and Monwara Begum for making me who I am and for their unconditional love that motivates me to set ambitious goals. iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS First and foremost, I would like to thank my advisor Dr. Amyn S. Teja for his continuous help and guidance in my research. His insightful discussions on different aspects of the thermodynamics and engineering fundamentals helped me to achieve my professional goals. The enthusiasm and professionalism he has demonstrated for his research was motivational for me, even when times were difficult in my Ph.D. pursuit. It has been an honor to be his Ph.D. student. I would also like to acknowledge my assistance and recommendations in different stages of my research. I would like to express my heartiest gratitude to past and present members of the Mohamad Kassaee for their generous help and friendship. They have added much to my personal and professional development. I am especially indebted to Mohamad Kassee, Pei Yoong, and Pramod Warrier for their willingness to provide inspiration and feedback, and Mohamad Kassaee for his help in FTIR peak analysis. I wish to acknowledge my friends and family for their inspiration and support they have provided during my PhD work. Most importantly, I would like to thank my wife, Kamrun Nahar and my son, Naqeeb Mohammad Hossain for their love and support which was the driving force to accomplish my goals.

Modeling Solubility Behavior of CO2 in [C2-mim][BF4] and [C4-mim][BF4] Ionic Liquids by sPC-SAFT Equation of State

The simplified perturbed chain statistical associating fluid theory (sPC-SAFT) Equation of State (EOS) was proposed to describe the thermodynamic properties of pure ionic liquids (ILs). A set of sPC-SAFT parameters for 2 ILs was obtained by fitting the experimental liquid densities data over a wide range of temperature at atmospheric pressure. Good agreement with experimental density data was o...

Investigation of Thermodynamic Consistency Test of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in Room-Temperature Ionic liquids using Generic van der Waals Equation of State

Thermodynamic consistency test of isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data of various binary systems containing Carbon dioxide (CO2)/Room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have been investigated in wide ranges of pressures in each isotherm precisely. In this paper Generic van der Waals (GvdW) equation of state (EoS) coupled with modified van der Waals Berthelot mixing rule has ...

High-Pressure Phase Equilibria in Systems Containing CO2 and Ionic Liquid of the [Cnmim][Tf2N] Type

In this review, we present a comparison of the high-pressure phase behaviour of binary systems constituted of CO2 and ionic liquids of the [Cn(m)mim][Tf2N] type. The comparative study shows that the solubility of CO2 in ionic liquids of the [Cnmim][Tf2N] type generally increases with increasing pressure and decreasing temperature, but some peculiarities have been observed. The solubility of CO2...

High Pressure Phase Equilibrium of (Solvent + Salt + CO2) Systems by the Extended Peng-Robinson Equation of State

An extended Peng-Robinson equation of state (EPR-EOS) is used to model the vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) in systems containing (water + NaCl + CO2), (water + methanol + NaCl + CO2), (water + Na2SO4 + CO2) and (water + NH4Cl + CO2). The binary and ternary interaction parameters between salt and solvent are adjusted...

Modeling of the carbon dioxide solubility in imidazolium-based ionic liquids with the tPC-PSAFT equation of state.

In this work, an equation of state (EoS) is developed to predict accurately the phase behavior of ionic liquid + CO2 systems based on the truncated perturbed chain polar statistical associating fluid theory (tPC-PSAFT) EoS. This EoS accounts explicitly for the dipolar interactions between ionic liquid molecules, the quadrupolar interactions between CO2 molecules, and the Lewis acid-base type of...
